Family-Owned, Becker’s Bridal Delivers a Luxe Shopping Experience

Since 1934, Becker’s Bridal has been helping brides of every kind find the wedding gown of their dreams. The business is family-co-owned and operated by Shelley Mueller, Alyssa Pung, and Cory Pung. Shelley is a fourth-generation Becker owner. Alyssa and her husband Cory are fifth-generation. Prior to selling gowns, the original business front included several products, like dry goods and fabrics, in the 30s. That is until Shelley’s grandmother, Eva, brought back the first gown from a shopping trip in Chicago. It was sold and worn in 1934, and the rest is history!

Today, Becker’s Bridal is Michigan’s premier bridal salon, attracting brides from all over the state and beyond. With an extensive inventory of over 2,500 gowns in a variety of styles, they can accommodate every bride! Currently, brides are loving the Justin Alexander 66212, Maggie Sottero Anniston, and Allure Bridals 3450. They also feature the Allure Bridals Disney Fairy Tale Wedding Collection, which brings in Disney-loving brides from the Midwest. Alongside gowns, brides can find accompanying items, such as bridal veils and jewelry. In addition to a large selection of Mother of the bride/groom gowns, housed at their secondary location: Becker’s Bridal Outlet. More recently, they opened The Phoenix Bridal Celebration Lounge, the first-of-its-kind full-service cafe. Here, brides continue the celebration following their “YES” moment.

Beyond the extensive dress inventory, Becker’s offers a unique and memorable experience for women visiting the shop. Upon entering the store, women are blown away by the elegant design and decor. They are pleasantly greeted by staff and assigned a consultant for a one-on-one personalized appointment. Consultants spend a few minutes asking the bride what styles and preferences she has, before heading to look through the racks. Brides select 5-6 initial gowns to try on and if necessary, consultants will return to the racks to search for the perfect gown. Brides have the opportunity to view their selections in a variety of specially lit dressing rooms and when she has found the perfect gown, she is brought to The Magic Room. This famous viewing room is located in the original storefront bank vault with special cathedral backlighting and is where the majority of brides finalize their decision. At the end of the appointment, the bride and her entourage head upstairs to The Phoenix to enjoy a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, charcuterie, desserts, and more!

In general, Becker recommends scheduling a dress-shopping appointment about a year in advance. This is because special orders can take anywhere between 5-10 months to arrive. Prior to the appointment, they encourage brides to peruse their website to create a ‘wishlist’ of desired gowns. “It’s very helpful to come into the appointment with an open mind though, as most women have never tried on a wedding gown before. A large percentage of brides also say “YES” to their wedding gown on their first shopping appointment, so be prepared for that as well.”

What is your favorite part of a wedding?

We may be biased, but we find the wedding dress shopping journey best to kick off the entire engagement period and set the tone of the wedding day. Because of the tradition behind dress shopping, it becomes one of the most exciting and intimate moments throughout the bride’s entire journey. We also love when brides walk down the aisle to their fiancé!

Do you look at the bride or the groom when the bride walks down the aisle?

We can’t keep our eyes off of the bride and her stunning gown while she’s walking down the aisle!

Please share a fun little fact about yourself!

Alyssa only has sisters by marriage, and all of her sisters by marriage only have sisters by marriage! On top of that, she has three sons but no daughters!
